CubaOne Foundation is an organization that will give a free trip to Cuban Americans to travel to Cuba. The organization gives Cuban Americans the opportunity to explore their h heritage. Visitors will get a chance to tour and learn the history of Cuba and the culture of the Cuban people.
Is There A Catch?
No. It is a Free Trip. However, people are selected to go on the trip through their lottery process. The first few trips that were taken, they had a group of a least 10 people. Currently they are working on planning a group of 40-50 people to attend. If you are selected you will be notified and you should bring extra expenses since most meals airfare and lodging is covered. The trip is designed for you to form meaningful relationships with the Cuban people. As you know, many Cuban artists had to rise through the oppression of communism to express their art. You will also have the opportunity to meet Cuban self-employed entrepreneurs 'cuenta-propistas'. We would hope Pitbull or Camilla Camello would be performing there during your visit. However, you will have a chance to meet other Cuban artists.
What Is The Trip Itinerary?
The trip covers airfare, lodging, and meals. You will be flown from Miami to Havana international airport. The itinerary is curated by the interest of you in your peers. Be sure to have your passport and enough for a Visa and other expenditures. They will take you on a tour around the island landmarks. You will also experience living in Cuban homes to give you the authentic Cuban experience or casas-particulares.
Is The Trip For Anyone?
Currently, the program is open solely to Cuban Americans. The organizations focus is on building the Cuban links in the community. They are progressively working to expand their program for other Americans to join.
How is the Trip Funded?
The trip has been funded for 40 years by the founding fathers. CubaOne always wants to extend the opportunity to young Cuban Americans to experience their heritage. CubaOne is building partnerships with organizations, companies, and individuals that share the same vision to build the Cuban community. The organization accepts contributions, but has no plans to receive government funding.
What Ages Are They funding on the Trip?
At the moment the organization is accepting applicants between 22-33 years old. However, you can be a few years out of the age bracket based on you application.
